What exactly is food safety?

Food safety went down to how you should handle, prepare and even store food. This is done in order to prevent infection and foodborne illnesses. It also helps to ensure the consumer that the food they are eating is totally safe and have the sufficient nutrients needed for their daily diet. The safety of food must be ensured as foodborne illnesses are not just cause by the floating germs in the air but it can also be passed down from a person to another due to the existence of unhygienic people.

Other things that could lead to foodborne illnesses includes not washing hands properly, cross-contamination, improper storage of food and cooking temperature and lastly, contamination of food by animal waste. Setting up an example such as raw meat, poultry and etc. should be stored far away from fresh ingredients and put in different compartments. This should be taken seriously as it could lead to serious illnesses and if critical, death.

Quoting from Hippocrates, "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."

Thanks to today’s modern technology, these food safety problems could be reduced by having a traceability system for food. As food safety problems have been increasing, the consumers are worried and doubting the sophisticated food production and trading system that is being used worldwide. By having a traceability system for food, the consumers can kiss goodbye to their worries! Moreover, food traceability system enables food supplier to know if there is a problem with the food and enables them to withdraw the unsafe food from the market and thus, decreasing the risk of unsafe food. To sum it off, food traceability is comparably progressive in the field of ICT.
